GIBSON AREA HOSPITAL (GAH) Auxiliary held its annual Spring Banquet in April at the First Presbyterian Church in Gibson City, where they awarded eight scholarships to students pursuing careers in health care. This year’s two Auxiliary scholarships were awarded to Stephanie Streenz, of Saybrook, the daughter of Jay and Ann Standish, and Holly Garcia, of Thawville, the daughter of Pedro and Carolyn Garcia. Streenz works at GAH in administration and is pursuing her master’s degree in healthcare administration through Ohio University. Garcia is on the path to becoming a physician at the University of Illinois and plans to practice rural medicine. She is currently a certified pharmacy technician at GAH. The Verna Buck scholarships were awarded to Liberty Jamison and Kalista Klann, both of Paxton. Jamison, the daughter of Dennis and Jennifer Jamison, began her studies this fall at Lakeland College, with the goal of a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) so she can become a NICU nurse. Klann, the daughter of Mitchel and Tammy Klann, attends Purdue University Northwest in pursuit of her BSN. Klann ultimately wants to become a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA). The CEDF Scholarship was presented to Maya Brust, of Paxton. Brust, the daughter of Kurt and Teresa Brust, entered Illinois State University in the fall. She is working toward a BSN to become a pediatric nurse practitioner. The Arthur and Ane Jensen Noland Scholarship was awarded to Brooks Schmitt, of Gibson City, the son of Rob and Linda Schmitt. He is studying nutrition and dietetics at Bradley University. The William and Viola Garrett Scholarship was given to Sydni Meunier, of Melvin. Meunier, the daughter of Mike and Patti Meunier, has begun her second year of medical school at Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine. Upon completion of her medical degree, she plans to become a rural physician. The GAH Auxiliary Gift Shop Scholarship was presented to Emily Lange, of Gibson City. Lange, the daughter of Anthony and Stacey Row, attends St. Louis School of Pharmacy and is studying to become a pharmacist.
