GibsonHospital.org 4 Gibson Area Hospital surgeon achieves highest credential in wound care General surgeon Joseph Chung, MD, recently obtained the title of Diplomate—the highest credential a surgeon can receive in wound care—by passing the American Board of Wound Medicine and Surgery examination. In doing so, Dr. Chung joins a distinguished group of elite wound care surgeons. According to Amanda McKeon, Director of Care Coordination and Credentialing, the board certification designation recognizes Dr. Chung's proven knowledge and training in wound care and assures patients of his expertise and experience. Three decades of service Sylvia Day, RN, was honored by colleagues, friends and family to mark her retirement in May from more than three decades of dedicated service to the Gibson Area Hospital & Health Services organization. Day began her nursing career at the hospital as a candy striper, contributed her skills for many years as a registered nurse, and served most recently as Director of Quality & Risk Management. GAHHS wins Women's Choice Award Rob Schmitt, CEO of Gibson Area Hospital & Health Services, attended the Women’s Choice Award Show in Los Angeles, sharing the red carpet with celebrities such as Sharon Stone and Meredith Vieira. According to the Women’s Choice Award Show website, the inaugural event in May honored “fierce women and global brands who passionately advocate for the empowerment of girls and women.” Gibson Area Hospital is recognized as a 2017 Women’s Choice Award winner for being “One of America’s Best Hospitals in Obstetrics and Orthopedics.” New Illinois Rural Health Association leader is a natural fit Robin Rose was recently named President Elect of the 2017 Illinois Rural Health Association (IRHA). As a leading advocate of providing access to health care in underserved rural communities, Rose maintains strong relationships with the Illinois Department of Public Health Center for Rural Health and other state, public and private associations that advocate for improved rural health.
