Gibson Area Hospital & Health Services | Gibson gets it! | Fall/Winter 2018

Gibson gets it! 5 Having a blast Girls on the Run is a program that builds confidence by encouraging teamwork, healthy emotions and physical activity. Leading the program locally are Katherine Austman, MD, Family Health Care of Gibson City, and Erin Miller, PA- C, Director of Therapy Services, along with assistants Kami Winnicki, APN, FNP-BC; Janae Tompkins, OTA; and Jessica Delost, In-House Counsel and HIPAA Privacy Officer. “Girls on the Run is such a positive national program for these girls,” says Miller, who has a strong background in exercise and fitness. “I am so excited that Gibson Area Hospital supported us getting this program into our community and thankful for the other coaches that jumped on board with me.” Summing up the program, she couldn’t be happier: “We had a blast!” Restoring joy in medicine On behalf of the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians, Gibson Area Hospital & Health Services (GAHHS) hosted the medical provider event “Joy in Medicine,” presented by Kathy Mueller, MD, a Connecticut family physician and an alternate delegate to the Congress of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) representing her state. Through her activities with AAFP, Dr. Mueller became acquainted with David J. Hagan, MD, GAHHS family medicine physician and GAHHS Chief Strategy Officer, who was instrumental in bringing her program to Gibson City. During the event, Dr. Mueller addressed effective approaches to successfully improve work-life balance and restore joy in medicine, including simple self-care tools for holistic solutions to enhance resilience. Congratulations to new Mahomet resident Laura Elliott, winner of an Apple iPad for her participation in a healthcare survey conducted at the Mahomet Music Festival in August. When she and husband Eric stopped by Gibson Health of Mahomet to pick up the prize, they met Tiffany Rushing, FNP, who agreed with the couple that Mahomet is a great place to live! They enjoy all of the amenities and activities the village offers, including close-to-home health care. Rushing also assured the parents of two that the Mahomet office has plenty of patient-friendly options to accommodate active families.
