This newest piece of equipment decreases IV attempts, lowering the risk of infection and increasing patient satisfaction. Kenna McCall, Director of Pre-op Services says, “The AccuVein has been an exceptional tool for our IV access needs. It’s a wonderful educational resource—not only for our nursing staff, but for nursing interns and students learning how to start an IV.” Baby Central With an ultrasound machine purchased exclusively for Baby Central physicians, delivery doctors can now get an immediate and firsthand look at the position of the baby, the status of the placenta and the fetal heart rate. This information allows them to make the best decisions regarding care for both mom and baby, making it a vital tool in emergency situations. The OB department also received an Avalon CL wireless monitor to enhance the labor experience for patients, making it possible for them to move freely in the unit, use the birthing balls and the labor tub, and change laboring positions without sacrificing fetal monitoring. All of these options “have been proven to not only shorten labor but also assist in pain management without the need for narcotics or other medical interventions,” says Kristin Salyards, Co- Director of OB Services.
