Gibson gets it! 5 2018 WOMEN’S CHOICE AWARD® GAHHS named one of America’s Best Hospitals for Orthopedics Rural hospitals throughout the nation provide much-needed access to health care that many Americans rely on daily. Because high-quality health care is critical to those living in small or rural communities, Becker’s Hospital Review recognizes in its 2018 list of “50 Rural Hospital CEOs to Know” those hospital leaders who overcome significant challenges operating rural community and critical access hospitals to lead sustainable and thriving organizations. For the fifth year in a row, Gibson Area Hospital & Health Services (GAHHS) CEO Rob Schmitt has been named among these top 50 CEOs. Of the 50 CEOs selected from hospitals all over the country, Schmitt is again the only one to represent our area. The nearest and only other CEO selected from Illinois is from Fairfield, 156 miles south of Gibson City. Schmitt joined Gibson Area Hospital & Health Services in 2002 as CFO and was promoted to Chief Executive Officer in 2007. Under his leadership, GAHHS has grown to become one of the largest Critical Access Hospitals in the nation, with over 700 employees and 21 clinics on the hospital campus and in surrounding communities. Schmitt serves on various healthcare boards, including the Illinois Hospital Association, and is also a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. GAHHS CEO Rob Schmitt Named One of Becker’s 50 CEOs to Know for the Fifth Year in a Row Gibson Area Hospital & Health Services (GAHHS) has once again been named one of America’s Best Hospitals for Orthopedics by theWomen’s Choice Award. The award signifies that GAHHS is in the top 11 percent of 3,230 U.S. hospitals offering orthopaedics services. In a national survey conducted by the Women’s Choice Award, female patients identified the following key priorities when choosing a hospital for orthopaedics: • • A single source for orthopaedic services. • • A solid patient safety record. • • High recommendation ratings. Women have different orthopaedics needs, particularly as they grow older and become more at risk for osteoporosis and fractures,” says Delia Passi, Founder and CEO of theWomen’s Choice Award. “They also have different health care preferences, which we use to evaluate the recipients of America’s Best Hospitals for Orthopedics. We are the only award that recognizes a hospital’s ability to meet women’s distinctive needs.” Not just a one-time thing GAHHS is one of 357 award recipients representing the hospitals that have met the highest standards for orthopaedics care in the U.S. by the Women’s Choice Award. Rob Schmitt, CEO of Gibson Area Hospital & Health Services, appreciates what the repeat designation says about the organization. “The fact that Gibson Area Hospital has won this award for four years in a row is a testament to the hard work and dedication of all of our staff and physicians.
