The list is published in Becker’s Hospital Review , a trade publication for the healthcare industry. Rose, currently serving as President of the Illinois Rural Healthcare Association, was also recently selected by her peers in the National Rural Health Association (NRHA) Rural Health Congress to serve as a representative in the Hospital and Community Health Systems Constituency Group. The Rural Health Congress is the policy-making body of the NRHA, giving broad grassroots representation that reflects the concerns of NRHA’s membership. ‘Near and dear to my heart’ As a strong voice for access to health care in underserved rural communities, Rose maintains strong relationships with the Illinois Department of Public Health Center for Rural Health and other associations that advocate for improved rural health. Leading the IRHA mission is a natural fit: “Rural health is near and dear to my heart,” she says. “I come from an underserved area and understand the challenges.” The respect from her peers at state and national levels has earned her the National Rural Health Louis Gorin Award for Outstanding Achievement in Rural Health Care. She is the only person in Illinois to ever receive this honor. Rose was also selected by the Governor’s Rural Affairs Council to become the only woman in Illinois to receive the Rural Illinois Champion Award, an accolade given for bringing about change in rural Illinois communities. According to Becker’s Healthcare, the women on the list “face the challenges of running a health care organization head-on. Many wear multiple hats within their health system to promote organizational growth as well and compassionate care and diversity at the top.” Among her many roles, Rose acknowledges that “Rural health care is my passion, and I am an advocate for rural care in Illinois and across the nation. Rural America needs their community hospitals.” The Allen family: Brooke and Gordon hold their children, Conrad and Charlie Kate. Conrad was the first baby born in 2018 at Gibson Area Hospital (GAH).
