Gibson gets it! 3 Family medicine doctor ranks among physician leaders David J. Hagan, MD, recently attained the designation of FAAPL (Fellow of the American Association for Physician Leadership). Among his many qualifications for this designation are positions held at Gibson Area Hospital as chief medical officer, medical staff president, and currently as chief strategy officer. A diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine, Dr. Hagan has practiced family medicine in Gibson City since August 1983. Outstanding Citizen of the Year Rob Schmitt, GAHHS CEO, was named the 2017 Gibson Area Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Citizen of the Year at the Annual Chamber dinner held in Gibson City on March 8, 2018. With a true passion for helping others, he currently serves the community by assisting with the food pantry and volunteering as a football coach. He also served as an officer with the GCMS band boosters and as a Ford County youth soccer coach. Schmitt is an active member on the Rotary Club, Lions Club, and Ford County Knights of Columbus, as well as a valuable volunteer at all Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church functions, and of course, the Gibson Area Chamber of Commerce. As CEO at Gibson Area Hospital, he encourages and inspires the 700+ employees to get involved in the community and volunteer. Orthopaedic surgeon puts on his boogie shoes The Gibson City Melvin Sibley High School (GCMS) dance team enlisted Jason Ye, MD, as one of seven local stars for the team’s annual fundraiser in February. The Ivy League-educated orthopaedic surgeon proved it's “Hip to Be Square,” performing a choreographed number to the Huey Lewis song with GCMS dance teammember Sam Groover. The friendly competition ended well, with Dr. Ye and Sam winning the People’s Choice Award. They were cheered on by friends, family and staff from GAH Orthopedics. Specialized lymphedema treatment Gibson Area Hospital Therapy Services has added another Certified Lymphedema Therapist (CLT) to its roster of therapists with specialized training in treating lymphedema. With her new credentials, Becca Terrio, PT, DPT, joins lymphedema therapists Shane Stachura, DPT, who sees patients in Cissna Park, and Andrew Cooke, PTA, in Gibson City. These lymphedema therapists can effectively evaluate and treat edemas from cardiovascular insufficiencies. Lymphedema is most commonly the result of cancer treatments. The therapists are proficient in CDT (complete decongestive therapy), the gold standard of treatment for lymphedema, which includes manual lymph drainage (MLD) and compression bandaging/therapy.
